About Us

Yatom is a Jewish nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting foster and adoptive families—and the children who need them most. Rooted in tradition and guided by compassion, we provide education, resources, and community for those welcoming a child into their home, as well as support for families in crisis. Our mission is simple: to ensure that every child has the chance to grow up in a safe, loving, and nurturing environment.

Why This Work Matters

"I came to Yatom as a single woman in grad school—curious about adoption but scared of foster care. Through the support, wisdom, and real-world insight I received, I found the confidence to open my heart and my home. Since then, I’ve welcomed four foster placements and adopted my daughter in 2020. Yatom didn’t just support me—they helped build my family."

The Foster Care Crisis and the Jewish Call to Care

Today in the U.S., more than 368,000 children are in foster care—but there are only about 214,000 licensed foster homes available. That means thousands of children are left waiting for the safety and support of a stable family.

In Jewish tradition, we are called to care for the vulnerable and protect the orphan. At Yatom, we respond to that call by supporting foster and adoptive families with education, resources, and compassion—so more children can grow up with love, dignity, and belonging.

Support a Child’s First Days in a New Home

Our tradition calls us to protect the vulnerable and care for one another with compassion and dignity. At Yatom, every act of support—big or small—helps children find safety, love, and belonging. However you choose to give, you are part of this sacred work.

Your gift can help fund:

A crib for a safe place to sleep – $180

Every donation helps ensure a child is welcomed with care, dignity, and love.
